The procedure
Before each treatment you will be asked several short questions about your medical status, sun exposure, previous treatments and upcoming events. Although this may seem repetitive, it's necessary to make sure nothing has changed that would cause an ineffective or unsafe treatment. Prior to your treatment, your skin color and hair thickness will be examined to determine the appropriate laser settings. A physician or registered nurse will perform a “skin test” at various laser energy levels on your skin during your complimentary consultation. This will determine the level of energy that is best for you, as well as a guide for nurses to use during your laser treatment sessions. Each pulse of the laser covers an area approximately the same size as a quarter. While the laser is pulsing, cryogen coolant is blown across the treatment area to aid in comfort and skin cooling. This laser process is the fastest in the industry; for example, both underarms can be treated in about 5 minutes. Most guests tolerate the procedure well, but if it is too uncomfortable for you the nurse can modify the laser settings.

Pre-treatment
In preparation for each treatment, it is important that you follow a few simple instructions to ensure you have the best results. Avoid sun exposure, tanning salons, and tanning creams. The risk of skin complications increases if you have had a change in skin color, a sunburn, or initial sun exposure in the past 30-60 days. If you have had any of the above listed instances, your appointment may need to be rescheduled. Tanned skin cannot be treated..

Post-treatment
Your skin in the treated area may become slightly red and puffy within several minutes of your treatment. This response is very normal and the skin should return to normal within a few hours or up to 23 days immediately after a treatment, hydrocortisone or aloe-vera gel will be applied to soothe the skin. If you are still warm in the treated area, request a cold pack to be applied. However, no further special skin care is usually necessary. If itching or discomfort occurs, hydrocortisone 1% cream (available over the counter) may be used over the treated area as often as needed. Tylenol and cold compresses may also be used if desired.
