Who Is A Good Candidate?
Myopia is nearsightedness, meaning you can only see things that are close up. Most people have this condition because of a genetic predisposition. But you can also get it when your cornea or lens is too thick, or your axial length is longer than the focal point.
You might have myopia for one, several, or all the above reasons. No matter the reason, your level of myopia determines your candidacy for clear lens extraction.
Patients between 40 and 60 years old with extreme myopia will have the most success from this procedure. Extreme means greater than eight diopters, represented by D on your prescription. You also can’t have any cataracts but must have a totally healthy refractive lens.
Your doctor should spend time with you and get to know your lifestyle. There are different lens options to replace your eye’s natural lens. Without knowing what types of activities are more important to you, the doctor can’t make the best recommendation.
As with laser surgery, your vision might not be perfect after the procedure. You’ll see big improvements, but it’s not a 100% guarantee of perfection.
