It’s very common for your neck to show signs of aging before other areas of your body. Excess skin, band lines and loss of elasticity on the neck can distract from your otherwise youthful-looking face. Neck lift is designed to smooth and tighten the contour of the neck, making you look years younger. Neck lift is now available at Tayani Institute with our plastic surgeon, serving Mission Viejo and all surrounding Orange County areas.
Neck Lift Candidates
You may be an appropriate candidate for neck lift if you have excess skin, loose neck muscles, horizontal band lines and fat deposits around your neck. If you are considering neck lift, it’s important that you are in good health; you may not qualify for neck lift if you have chronic health conditions which could increase your surgical risks. Before confirming you are a suitable candidate, we will also ensure that your expectations of surgery are reasonable, and we will ask you to explain your cosmetic goals.
The Neck Lift Procedure
Neck lift is an outpatient procedure that is performed under anesthesia. It typically takes several hours. Our plastic surgeon begins by making an incision underneath your chin; an additional incision may be made in front of or behind your ears. Through the incisions, our plastic surgeon tightens the neck muscles and removes excess fat. Liposuction techniques may be used to remove the fat. Our plastic surgeon then re-drapes the skin and removes any excess skin. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures and a surgical dressing is placed over the treatment area.
Neck lift may be combined with another facial rejuvenation surgery such as facelift, eyelid surgery or brow lift. Combining procedures is often a smart idea if you desire a more comprehensive makeover.
Recovering from Neck Lift
Your neck will be sore and swollen after surgery. Any pain or discomfort can be controlled with prescription medications. It’s best to get as much rest as possible in the early days of your recovery, and to avoid all strenuous activities, including bending, straining or heavy lifting. Our plastic surgeon will want you to wear an elastic support garment for several weeks after surgery to help the tissues settle into place. We will also schedule several follow-up appointments to remove your sutures (if necessary) and clear you to return to your normal routine. Generally our neck lift patients return to work within seven to 10 days.
