Laser Resurfacing Q & A

How can laser resurfacing improve my skin?

One of the most impactful parts of aging is the loss of your natural collagen and elastin, which serve to plump and smooth your skin.

These components are what gives your face a rounded and smooth appearance in your youth. Once you lose that natural padding, your skin is left to sag and pool into lines, folds, and wrinkles.

Laser skin resurfacing works by using laser energy to prompt your body to produce new collagen and elastin. As those cells are formed, your skin becomes tighter and smoother.

What other skin issues can laser resurfacing resolve?

In addition to promoting new collagen and elastin production, laser skin resurfacing can address a wide range of common skin conditions, including:

  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven texture
  • Sun damage
  • Loose skin
  • Dull skin
  • Hyperpigmentation

The ability to treat multiple skin conditions at once is part of what makes laser skin resurfacing such a popular medical aesthetic treatment.

What happens during laser skin resurfacing?

At Tayani Institute, the Active FXⓇ laser is the platform used to perform laser resurfacing. This powerful carbon dioxide ablative laser is able to penetrate into the deepest layers of your skin to destroy old or damaged skin cells.

Your body responds by creating new cells, leaving a layer of glowing, healthy cells and delivering a fresh start to your skin.

A numbing cream is used to reduce sensation in your treatment area. You’ll also take an antibiotic in the days leading up to your appointment. Special pain-blocking injections can further numb the treatment area.

Your doctor moves the treatment wand across the surface of your skin in a grid pattern. Once the treatment is complete you may notice a sensation similar to a sunburn. You’ll need to take care with your skin as your body heals, and avoid harsh cleansers or any form of scrubbing.

You might experience some skin flaking in the days following your appointment, and your skin will appear more red or pink than normal. You’ll be able to wear makeup within 4-7 days after your session.

Over the following six months you’ll continue to see improvements in your skin’s tone and texture, as well as fewer lines and wrinkles.
