Our dermatologists offers a range of surgical procedures to treat common skin conditions. Dr. Bobby’s vast expertise covers a variety conditions, from ingrown nails to melanoma. Tayani Institute prefers treatment options that minimize scarring and produce the best cosmetic results possible. Tayani Institute handles many skin cancer cases for patients. If skin cancer is detected and confirmed via biopsy, it needs to be removed quickly to increase the chance of successful treatment. In many cases, Mohs surgery is the best option.
Our Dermatologists are fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeons who has performed thousands of skin cancer removal and reconstruction cases. Mohs surgery is accepted by many dermatologists as the best way to remove basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, the two most prevalent types of skin cancers. Part of the reason it has been universally embraced is because the technique minimizes the loss of healthy tissue while maximizing the removal of cancerous tissue. Mohs surgery also has a very high cure rate of nearly 98 percent, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation and the American College of Mohs Surgery.
During Mohs surgery, our dermatologist carefully removes cancerous tissue one layer at a time. After removing a layer, he examines it under a microscope to look for any cancer cells. If she sees cancer, she removes another layer, and continues to do so until she no longer sees any cancer cells. This approach causes less scarring and is easier to recover from than removing an entire area of skin at one time.
After removing the cancerous tissue, our dermatologist has several options to repair the surgical wound, depending on how large the area is. If it is a small area, the wound will likely heal itself. If it is moderate in size, we may close the wound with stitches.
If a large area of skin is removed during Mohs surgery, our dermatologist can use skin grafting to reduce the chances of scarring. During a skin graft procedure, we’ll then remove an area of healthy skin from another area of the body (e.g., upper thigh) and use it to cover the area where the skin cancer was removed. Skin grafting is performed at the same time as the cancer removal.
